Novel applications of Magnetic Nanoparticles

Lundi 18 novembre 2013 14:00 - Duree : 1 heure
Lieu : Entrée principale du CEA - 17 rue des martyrs - 38000 Grenoble

Orateur : Professor Raju V. RAMANUJAN (School of Materials Science and Engineering | Nanyang Technological University, Singapore)

Current Research Interests The focus of research in Ramanujan’s group is the study and development of advanced nanomaterials, especially functional nanomaterials for energy, bioengineering, information storage and defense applications. His group is involved in the processing, characterization, property evaluation and commercialization of such nanomaterials. Recent PhD theses include : Characterization and processing of cobalt based magnetic nanomaterials, Microstructural evolution and processing of melt spun and mechanically alloyed Fe-Ni-B-Mo nanomagnetic materials, Alloying effects on nanostructure formation in iron based soft magnetic materials, Directed self assembly of patterned magnetic nanostructures, Thermoresponsive iron oxide-polymer composite nanoparticles for multimodal cancer therapy and Coated magnetic carrier particles for targeted drug delivery. A strong emphasis is placed on electron microscopy and the use of phase transformations to tailor the structure and properties. Current topics of research include energy materials such as magnetocaloric materials for energy efficient thermal management systems, patterned nanostructures, giant energy product exchange coupled hard magnetic nanomaterials, morphing structures as well as targeted drug delivery and gene delivery. Sources of funding include A*STAR, Ministry of Education, US Air Force and Applied Materials (USA).

Current Projects • Magnetic Materials for energy applications • Magnetocaloric Materials and Systems • Magnetic Nanomaterials for biomedicine • Development of Morphing Structures • Nanomaterials
