A history and tour of the Mantid. Mantid is a framework for high
performance computing for data reduction and analysis for neutron
scattering and muon spectroscopy which has proved very popular at a large number of facilities. The Mantid framework supports multiple technquies, has a 3 month release cycle, is deployed cross platform. The project is over 1.3 millions lines of code, and is professionally project managed and supported by a team of approximately 15 full time developers. The project has evolved significantly over it’s duration, employing more cutting edge software development techniques, and strategies to keep productivity and quality high. While the project continues to grow, we reflect on challenges both past and present, highlighting successes and pitfalls.
