Mardi 30 juin 2015 14:00
- Duree : 1 heure
Lieu : Seminar Room 7/8 - ILL 1, 71 avenue des Martyrs, Grenoble
Orateur : C. REA (Recording Head Operations, Seagate Technology, Minneapolis, Minnesota)
In the last 40 years since the introduction of rotating magnetic storage, the information density on the devices to store your data has grown 8 orders of magnitude. All the while, they moved from the laboratory to WalMart shelves. We will discuss the trends in information storage forecast for the next few years, and how that will change our lives. By looking back at the technology changes that drove the growth, we can see the rich complexity of mechanics, physics and quantum electronics that lie behind the transducers. Looking ahead we can see some of the next technology changes required in order to overcome the technical hurdles.
