Vibration Analysis and Control for Scientific Experiment

Vibrations are often undesirable and have to be suppressed or reduced. In this talk, I will present some of the works made by the LAViSta group (Laboratoires d’Annecy travaillant sur les VIbrations et la STAbilisation) from LAPP (Laboratoire d’Annecy de Physique des Particules) in the field of vibration control and analysis. I will discuss how such vibrations can be measured and analysed using state of the art sensors (accelerometers, geophones, custom sensor) and illustrate the relevance of such measurements in the context of scientific experiments. I will give some insights about the ground motion mitigation technics applied to the CLIC (Compact Linear Collider) and ATF2 (Accelerator Test Facility) experiments, the limitation of industrial sensors and the need to design a specific sensor for CLIC. This talk is addressed to researchers and engineers, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate students and other experts and newcomers seeking more information about the state of the art, challenging open problems, innovative solution proposals and new trends and developments in this area.
