Antiferromagnets with complicated crystal structure often exhibit a novel phase or exotic spatial pattern in their ordered phases. Quasicrystals are materials with exquisite structure, and the Penrose lattice is the most famous example in two dimensions.
We have studied the magnetic order in the ground state of the half-filled Hubbard model on this lattice, and found that the order is antiferro type with disguised spatial pattern, particularly in the weak coupling region. This reflects the quasi-periodicity and self-similarity of the crystal structure. This work is a collaboration with Akihisa Koga at Tokyo Institute of Technology.
