Detector developments at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light National Laboratory (LNLS)

Vendredi 20 septembre 2013 14:30 - Duree : 1 heure
Lieu : Room 500 - 501, Central Building, ESRF - 6 Rue Jules Horowitz - Grenoble

Orateur : Jean RINKEL (CEA)

The detector group at the Brazilian National Laboratory of Synchrotron Light (LNLS) was recently created with the aim to develop detectors meeting the requirements resulting from the source parameters for the present synchrotron and the future third generation synchrotron (SIRIUS). An overview of the main ongoing projects will be given first. As a member of the Medipix international collaboration hosted by CERN, we are aiming at developing detectors based on the Medipix 3RX readout chip. Our first objective is to develop experimental bench setups, hardware configuration adjustments and signal processing methods to adapt the detector to specific applications like small angle scattering, high flux white beam transmission and fluorescence tomography. These developments are based on fine detector characterization with the different readout chip modes (single pixel and charge summing modes, fine pitch and spectrometric modes). Our second objective is to develop large area detectors in Brazil by collaborating with the Medipix members and developing local partnerships. Another crucial project concerns the HERMES-based photon-counting silicon detector. This is a microstrip detector dedicated to diffraction which is being developed by the BNL (Brookhaven National Laboratory). We will present our first results of characterization and a new modality of diffraction based on beam harmonics simultaneous analysis. Finally, recent highlights and characteristics of the Sirius 3 GeV synchrotron will be presented along with our related detector developments.
