Host pathogen interactions in malaria and HIV infection : perspectives for diffraction studies using neutron and X-ray diffraction
Mercredi 22 juillet 2015 11:00
- Duree : 1 heure
Lieu : CIBB Seminar Room, ILL - 71 avenue des Martyrs - Grenoble
Orateur : Theresa COETZER & Maria PAPATHANASOPOULOS (Wits University Medical School, South Africa)
Malaria and HIV remain global health threats and Africa bears the brunt of the morbidity and mortality from these diseases. There are currently no vaccines available and resistance of the infectious agents to current treatments fuel the need to discover new targets and drugs. This seminar will highlight the gaps in our knowledge of the biology of the pathogens and their interactions with the human host. The presenters will use selected examples to provide a perspective on current and future collaborative projects and demonstrate the synergy between the molecular and cell biology expertise at Wits in South Africa and the state-of-the-art structural analysis platforms at ILL and ESRF in Grenoble.
