More than Moore : Micro-Transformers for Integrated Galvanic Isolation

Lundi 23 novembre 2015 11:00 - Duree : 1 heure
Lieu : Site Viallet - Génie Industriel - Salle des Conseils - Grenoble

Orateur : Rongxiang WU (University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China)

As scaling down of transistors is approaching the ultimate physical limit, 50 years of “More Moore” of the integrated circuit industry is expected to reach the end in the near future, and the next era is believed to be “More than Moore” : functional diversifications. As a competitive emerging technology, micro-transformer enables integration of high voltage (several thousand of volts) galvanic isolation function into integrated circuit products, and is gaining an increasing market share over the traditional opto-coupler and discrete transformer technologies. In this talk, the basic principles, current status, and challenges of micro-transformer based galvanic isolation will first be discussed, and the presenter’s recent research work on novel silicon-embedded transformers for galvanic signal and low power isolation applications will then be presented. Biography : Dr. Rongxiang Wu is currently an associate professor in the School of Microelectronics and Solid-State Electronics, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, Chengdu, China. He received the B.Sc. degree in fundamental science (math and physics) from the Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, in 2006, and the Ph.D. degree in electronic and computer engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong, in 2011. His research interests include system-on-chip and system-in-package integration technologies of power inductors and transformers, and inductive wireless power transfer technologies. Dr. Wu has published over 20 IEEE peer-reviewed journal and conference papers. He is the holder of 1 US patent and has 4 patents pending. Dr. Wu is a member of IEEE, and serves as a reviewer for various IEEE journals and conferences in the field. Dr. Wu is the recipient of the 1000-Talent Award of Sichuan Province in 2014.
