Neuroimaging of Human visual cortex

Jeudi 28 avril 2016 11:30 - Duree : 1 heure
Lieu : Amphithéâtre Serge Kampf, Grenoble Institut des Neurosciences (GIN) - Bât. Edmond J. Safra, Chemin Fortune Ferrini CHU, La Tronche

Orateur : Michel DOJAT

Since its introduction in 1991, functional MRI has been largely applied to the exploration of the human visual system. Indeed, a large part of the cortical brain is devoted to visual information processing ; and specific properties and dedicated roles of each visual area facilitate their non invasive delineation and in-depth investigation. However, despite a large body of knowledge accumulated during 25 years, based mainly on fMRI studies, the mechanisms used by the visual brain to construct a colourful and informative representation to efficiently interact with the physical world are largely unknown. In this talk, we will present our recent studies to probe cortical mechanisms involved in surface and color perception using specific models such as watercolor effect and grapheme color synesthesia. Ongoing work on visual information processing impairment due to Parkinson disease will be discussed. Several methodological issues related to these cognitive experiments would be emphasized.
