Are molecular strategies adapted for obtaining multiferroics ?
Mardi 31 mai 2016 13:30
- Duree : 1 heure
Lieu : LNCMI, salle de conférences "René Pauthenet" (bâtiment J, 2ème étage) - 25 rue des martyrs - 38000 Grenoble
Orateur : Cyrille TRAIN (LNCMI)
The presentation will start with a general presentation of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). In particular, it will be shown how the choice of the constituents can influence the topology, the symmetry and the physico-chemical properties of the materials.
Some important ferroelectric and ferromagnetic molecular materials will be presented to underline how molecular chemists control the appearance of electric and magnetic dipole long range orderings. In the former case, we will insist on the possible mechanisms as well as on the necessary crystal engineering towards ferroelectricity. In the latter case, the control of the exchange interaction will be exemplified on textbook examples.
Finally, a critical presentation of the different synthetic strategies that were developed by molecular chemists towards multiferroic materials will be proposed.
