Ionic liquids - from structure to application

Lundi 11 juillet 2016 11:00 - Duree : 1 heure
Lieu : CEA, Bâtiment C5, Salle 421A - 17 rue des martyrs - 38000 Grenoble

Orateur : Johan JACQUEMIN (School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Queen’s University Belfast)

During this seminar, recent progress made by Dr. Johan Jacquemin’s group at QUB on ionic media will be presented. This will include an unique technique to predict the physical properties of pure Ionic Liquids/electrolytes and their mixtures with other fluids. This technique is based on a multiscale modelling-based approach moving from Ab-initio to Chemical Engineering modelling calculations.

Various properties will be covered including volumetric, viscosity, liquid-liquid and gas-liquid equilibrium, as well as, their direct industrial implementation in the case of the formulation of novel and safer electrolytes for energy storage systems or solvents for extraction processes.

Short Bio :

Dr. Johan Jacquemin is currently Senior Lecturer in Chemical Engineering at the Queen’s University Belfast. He received a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the Blaise Pascal University of Clermont-Ferrand, France in 2006. He moved at Queen’s in 2011 in order to apply his science, and more precisely his knowledge in thermodynamic and in chemical engineering, to the study of novel materials, including ionic liquids, from the determination and modelling of their fundamental properties to the development of novel applications. His work embraces the physical chemistry of pure components and their mixtures with other fluids and in particular on relationships between chemical structure and physical properties, with a strong focus on the development of new experimental approaches and models to design sustainable chemical engineering applications. He has achieved >£2m funding since 2018 from industry, the Royal Society, EPSRC, TSB, local government and EU, and has published >90 papers.
