Singlet oxygen, the lowest electronically excited state of the dioxygen molecule, is a reactive oxygen species that plays key roles in a variety of biological processes ranging from cell signalling to photodynamic therapy. Towards the goal of achieving both a better control of its generation and a better ability to monitor it in real time, we have built upon recent developments in the Nano-BioSciences to devise singlet oxygen nanosensors, nanoplasmonic agents for photoinactivation of
bacteria and fluoro-chromogenic theranostic agents.
