Freeze drying as a wide range strategy to self-assemble hierarchical biomaterials on demand

Abstract :

The development of advanced materials for biomedical applications requires the implementation of varied strategies to guarantee the simultaneous control of chemical, structural and textural properties. Among these strategies, low temperature based ones allows the straight incorporation of thermolabile bioactive functional entities. On recent years, freeze drying arise as a versatile strategy to fulfil all the aforementioned requirements on reproducible and scalable basis. Along this seminar, the principles of Freeze drying self-assemble strategy will be introduced. Illustrative examples of the preparation of hierarchical biomaterials, ranging from strictly inorganic bioglasses to biopolymer based ones will be described. Their chemical and physicochemical key aspects as well as their functionality will be discussed.

CV du Professor JOBBAGY

Prof. Matias Jobbagy leads the group of Chemistry of Functional Materials at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. His research is focused in the preparation of inorganic, hybrid and biohybrid functional materials with multidimensional order (from nano to macro scale). He studied and developed mild aqueous based chemically controlled process for the precipitation of several phases of relevance in the area of energy, catalysis and biomedical applications. He advised and co-advised 6 PhD students, 3 post-docs and 2 early stage staff researchers from CONICET, Argentina. He is author of 85 publications, including research articles, reviews, book chapters and patents, holding an H index of 30.
