Vendredi 22 février 2019 11:00
- Duree : 1 heure
Lieu : ILL 4, Seminar Room (no 163), 71 avenue des Martyrs - Grenoble
Orateur : Mohammad ESHRAQI (European Spallation Source ERIC - Lund - Sweden)
The European Spallation Source (ESS), currently under construction in Lund, Sweden, will be a spallation neutron source driven by a superconducting proton linac of an unprecedented 5 MW average beam power. This high power of the ESS linac requires its ion source (IS) to produce proton beam pulses at 14 Hz with a high peak current more than 62.5 mA and a long plateau up to 3 ms. The 2 GeV beam out of the linac will bombard the tungsten in the rotating target and through spallation will generate a high flux of neutrons which after cool down will be guided to the suite of neutron instruments. This talk is focused on the acceleration of the protons and generation of the neutrons with a brief overview of the instruments.
