Machine learning techniques are getting increasingly popular. They can be used for a wide variety of tasks such as analyzing pictures (face recognition) or sound (voice r ecognition) or play games such as chess or go. Most of the concepts of machine learning are already well known to physicists although machine learning provides an interesting new point of view. In this introduction, I will discuss these basic concepts. I will also present some recent works where machine learning has been used to address some physics problems or vice-versa.
