Research on carbon capture is in a delicate political situation. If fossil fuels are responsible for climate change would not be the simplest solution to ban all fossil fuels ? There is no question that in the long term all our energy needs will be provided by sustainable energy sources. But what if we need to act tomorrow ? At present carbon capture and geological storage is one of the few, if not only, technologies that can be implemented tomorrow and yield a reduction in CO2 emission while we transition to a sustainable energy economy. In my lecture I will illustrate some of the technical details of this process as well of some of the research we do in this field.
